The first Ukrainian Prayer Breakfast in Toronto

On May 23, Toronto hosted the first Ukrainian Prayer Breakfast in Canada, bringing together faith leaders, community representatives, volunteers, and friends of Ukraine in prayer and solidarity. The event featured special guests Oksana Bilozir and Vasyl Popadiuk and supported the construction of the Little Victories children’s rehabilitation center.

On May 23, Toronto hosted the first Ukrainian Prayer Breakfast in Canada—an event that brought together members of the Ukrainian community, representatives of different faiths, community leaders, volunteers, and friends of Ukraine around shared values, prayer, and support for Ukraine.

The event’s honored guest and inspiration was Oksana Bilozir—People’s Artist of Ukraine, public figure, and one of the key initiators of the Prayer Breakfast movement in Ukraine. She shared the story behind this meaningful tradition, which began in 2009 with the establishment of the first prayer group in the Parliament of Ukraine. Over the years, the initiative has grown into an international movement uniting Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine around the world.

The event was attended by clergy representing different denominations, as well as members of the Ukrainian community, business leaders, and representatives of public and nonprofit organizations. Among the distinguished guests was Oleh Nikolenko, Consul General of Ukraine in Toronto.

Prayers were offered in both Ukrainian and English for Ukraine, peace, Ukrainian defenders, and the future of the country, creating a deeply moving atmosphere of faith, unity, and hope.

Special guest Vasyl Popadiuk—a world-renowned Ukrainian violinist and Honored Artist of Ukraine—delivered a memorable performance that became one of the highlights of the program.

The Ukrainian Prayer Breakfast in Toronto also served an important charitable purpose: supporting the construction of the Little Victories children’s rehabilitation center. Funds raised during the event will contribute to this vital initiative and help provide care and rehabilitation for children.

A dedicated team of active members of the Ukrainian community in Canada, cultural figures, volunteers, and community organizations contributed to organizing the event. It was a great honor for the VONA Foundation team to support and participate in this meaningful initiative, especially as Oksana Bilozir is a valued mentor to our organization.

The first Ukrainian Prayer Breakfast in Canada became not only an important spiritual gathering but also a space for new connections, community unity, and future collaboration.

The organizers sincerely thank everyone who helped make this event possible, supported its charitable mission, and became part of this special day.

United in faith. United in prayer. Strong in action. 🤍
